HEALTH PROMOTION PROGRAMME

January - December 2010

ACCM proposes to run the following programmes during 2010 at a variety of locations throughout the region of Counties Manukau during the year.

Texting for Seniors

  • Four hour workshops held over 2 consecutive weeks with buddies teaching how to text on mobile phones

Cell phone basics

  • 2 hour workshops with buddies teaching the basics of mobile phone use

Preparing for Bereavement

  • 2 ˝ hour seminar with guest speakers from a local funeral home and Manukau Memorial gardens. Topics cover legal and practical issues surrounding funerals and burial/cremation options.                     

Step Ahead

  • 10 hour falls prevention programme delivered over 4 consecutive weeks. Topics include feet & foot wear, eyes & eyesight, fatigue, managing your medicines, stress management, home & community safety, relaxation, balance check up, strength & balance programme, goal setting

2 Hour Seminars

  • A 2 hour seminar with a guest speaker from:

·         Civil Defence (Emergency Management Officer)

·         Community Police (Community Constable)

·         NZ Fire Service (Fire Education Officer)

·         St John Ambulance services (Representative)

·         WINZ (local  Superannuation Case Manager)

·         Enduring Power of Attorney (local lawyer)                                          

Eat Well, Live Well

  • 10 hour nutrition course delivered over 4 – 5 weeks, which includes education on nutrition, time and labour saving kitchen appliances, power saving, food safety and practical cooking demonstrations. Also covers goal setting and emphasizes the importance of physical activity and the benefits of shared meals as a social activity                                    

Balancing Life

  • 5 hour course looking at stress, fatigue and sleep

2 hour workshops

  • 2 hour interactive workshop delivered by an ACCM staff member on the following topics;

·         Summer health

·         Winter health

·         Good days/bad days

·         Safety in the home                                                  

Scooter Safe

  • 4 hour Mobile Scooter interactive course on safe efficient and lawful use of mobile scooters.
