The main aim of the study is to test a range of questionnaires currently used to assess anxiety, to find out whether they are suitable for use with older people in New Zealand. To date, most research into anxiety has focused on younger adults. The majority of questionnaires available to doctors and psychologists for use in assessing anxiety problems have also been developed and tested with younger people. It is hoped that the information gathered in this study will help psychologists learn more about the anxieties that people experience later in life and that this understanding can be used to develop services that are more suited to older people and better able to help them if they have anxiety problems. You do not have to have anxiety problems to take part in this study; the success of this research depends on gathering information about the wide range of experiences of older men and women, from small everyday concerns through to the more serious and distressing anxieties that some people experience. Taking part in the study involves completing a series of questionnaires which takes approximately 50 minutes. You can do this in your own home and in your own time. All of the information you give will be anonymous. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please phone Liz Cotton on 09 443 9730 or email lizcotton@xtra.co.nz . .
