IDOP 1st OctoberInternational Day of Older PersonsOctober 1st is the United Nations International Day of Older Persons. This day is the world's day to celebrate older people and it is done in a wide variety of ways in hundreds of towns and cities. For many years now the main activity has been a Global Embrace walk where communities get together and celebrate active and positive ageing with a walk. Other activities in New Zealand include line dancing exhibitions, favourite hymns, and have-a-go days. The World Health Organisation invites you to visit their website where you will find the list of Global Embrace participants. In the near future, descriptions of some of the events will also be on line. The web site will continue to provide updated news on the Global Embrace. You may also wish to try out the web site address of the World Heart Federation and the World Heart Day. |
