Recreation is an activity of leisure. Recreational activities are often done for enjoyment, amusement or pleasure and are considered to be fun.
Participation in leisure and recreation activities can help create a higher level of wellbeing.
A 2008 study in New Zealand found that the 10 most popular sport and recreation activities enjoyed by older people were walking, gardening, swimming, equipment-based exercise, bowls, fishing, golf, dance, callisthenics and cycling – 82% participated in at least one sport or recreational activity every week.
